On 25th March, the Day of Blood, the Gallae would escort a statue of Cybele through the streets with their dyed blonde hair in the mud and their feminine attire dishevelled by frenetic dancing to their signature tambour drums. It was a popular spectacle, described by Ovid, and the most public part of the Gallae's mysterious rites surrounding the resurrection of Attis.
